It's Show Time!

Cripes - just looked at my new years resolutions that I posted here, oh dear....tried to find where to delete the post but couldn't. So, may actually need to try and achieve some of it instead.

The Townsville Show is at the end of this week and here are my two entries. The first is a "Fishermans Sampler Throw" and the second is my first attempt at tapestry crochet in the form of a tote bag.
Here's hoping they sell at the show, so I've got some more cash to feed the crochet habit. Although I did put quite a high price on both - a) to make sure if someone bought it they really really
wanted it and b) I can buy more yarn to do my charity stuff.
Entering the show is not the most dare-devil of "things to do before I die" I guess. But it's been done and am enjoying the process and experience. Fingers crossed we score a place. Otherwise, I'll have to hope my scones get across the line in the cooking section (another rush of blood from the woman who lives her life on the edge!) Stand back! You could get jammed and creamed!
Will keep you posted. (Hope you can stand the suspense.)
Now my crocheting is back to bedsocks and blankets - to donate to a local aged care facility.

Tammy the Improvised Merperson

She's 25 centimetres tall, a Pisces (naturally) and generally a nice piece of "tail".
I've been wanting to make a mermaid for ages (strange the goals one has really) - I've seen a couple of patterns around the place and had another kindly sent to me... I took their ideas on board and came up with my own.
I'm putting the pattern on http://groups.msn.com/OzCrochet very shortly (under "Members Patterns" - so if you go there and it isn't - just give me a poke.) Warning: I wrote it down as I went and it could have glitches! So if you find any - let me know.
So what's to become of Tammy? She's off to the Tamworth Women's Refuge (now you know where I got her name) to hopefully bring a little bit of light to a little girl's/boy's day.

The Flag's in the Bag

After many many months of "toil" and being "girt" by red, white and blue bits of yarn - the flag is complete! 95cm x 157 cm.

Now, all I need to do is decide where it's going! The local RSL Nursing Home is where I'm thinking it might find a good home.

Australians all let us ring Joyce!

Hopefully, anyone who has seen the movie "Kenny" will appreciate the title of this blog. God bless his toilet-cleaning soul.

I got the idea to do an Australian flag from Zeusie at http://msn.groups.com/OzCrochet who was looking for a pattern. As I couldn't find one - I thought I'd give it a go.

So I did up a grid and super-imposed a picture of the Oz flag on it - each grid square worth 5 rows of 5 dc.

As this is my first attempt - I'm not really sure the best way of changing colours - I figured it was easier to keep a ball going for each colour change rather than fasten off every couple of stitches. However, it sure is getting very unwieldy to handle - I've got balls of wool from "Weipa to Woop Woop" as it were.

I believe with tapestry crochet you carry the unused colours along with you, picking up each as it's needed. Had I known that before I was half way through, that may have been a better option. Still, we learn as we go.

All together now - "Australian's all let us ring Joyce! For she is young and free!"
